Beer

Beer is one of the oldest drinks produced by man, dating back to at least the fifth millennium BC, with written sources attesting to its production and consumption both in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. The knowledge about beer was passed on to the Greeks and Romans even though the latter preferred wine and considered it the most suitable beer for Barbarians. It was a very different drink from the one known today, obtained from cereals and flavored with a mix of spices. In the Middle Ages it began to use hops and became the most widespread drink especially in northern and Eastern Europe where the cultivation of the Vine was more difficult. In the modern age, the production of beer went from being a family business to be a small-scale activity organized in the Public House, and in the monasteries; it was mainly the monks to develop the techniques and recipes for the production of beer and with the discovery of the role of yeasts in the fermentation in the NINETEENTH century came to drink beer as we know it today.

In Europe the production of beer has had a different evolution in terms of brewing styles; we could divide Europe into three macro brewing regions: the English-speaking area (England, Scotland and Ireland), the Czech-German area (Germany and the Czech Republic) and the franco-Belgian area (France and especially Belgium). The beer culture has also been exported to the United States which to date can boast more than 20 styles of beer.

On Casillo Wine you will have the opportunity to choose the style that best suits your tastes in a wide selection of white, blonde, Amber and dark beers.
