The story of Averna has roots very far away, in the second half of’800, when Fra Girolamo, a friar of the Abbey of the Holy Spirit in Caltanissetta, to repay the aid received in a moment of particular difficulty, gave it to his benefactor, Salvatore Averna, the recipe of a liqueur. Neither of them could have imagined that that recipe would then become known and famous all over the world. This recipe, now for 140 years, is handed down secretly between generations and the only thing that is known is that it is a mixture of herbs, spices and roots coming from Caltanissetta itself and from all over the world. Today Averna is one of the most present brands in Italian communication, it is distributed in more than 50 countries around the world.
