Four Roses Distillery

The Four Roses, founded in 1888 by Rufus Mathewson Rose, together with his brother and two sons (hence the name) is considered, to date, the most famous and appreciated Bourbon Whiskey Distillery in the world. The company's official website reports instead that the trademark was registered by Paul Jones Jr. in 1888, although he had begun the production of this bourbon already in the previous twenty years. The Paul Jones Company acquired the Frankfort Distillery Company in 1922, expanding its production capacity. The Brand was then acquired by Seagram in 1943, but without first proving to be widely appreciated in the States. It was in fact enormously sold during the 30s, 40s and 50s. Despite this, Seagram decided to divest sales of Four Roses in the United States to focus on other types of products, moving the market to Europe and Asia where it continued to have great success. During this period a little sad for the history of Four Roses, in America the brand was used to market a cheap and poor quality blended. Finally, in 2002, the Kirin Brewery Company acquired the brand creating the Four Roses Distillery Company and bringing back, in 2004, the commercialization in the United States. The distillery stopped producing blended and focused solely on the production of its own Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, available today in different variations.
