The Hennessy distillery was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer serving in the army of Louis XV. The maison, in addition to representing the largest Cognac producer in the world, is also the company that first made the distillate famous, in France and beyond. With a production of 50 million bottles per year, the distillery currently covers 40% of the international demand for Cognac, offering a range of qualitatively superior and valuable distillates. First among the distilleries to have created the acronym VSOP, corresponding to cognacs that have spent at least four years aging in cask, the maison is now part of the LVMH group, following the merger with Moët et Chandon in 1987.
