DESCRIPTION: Akvavit or aquavit is an aromatic distillate produced primarily in Scandinavia since the 15th century. Using neutral grain alcohol as a base, it gets its distinctive flavor from herbs and spices, most prominently cumin and dill. The term comes from the Latin aqua vitae: it is one of the results, in fact, of the historic search for the elixir of life. Every production step is done by hand, from distilling the snaps to bottling: initially the ingredients are soaked in the base liquor, then gently distilled at a low temperature to preserve every flavor. Unfiltered, cold it can become opalescent.
