Plantation rums are made by Maison Ferrand, which also produces Cognac in France. For centuries, Maison Ferrand has had commercial relations with the most important distilleries in the Caribbean, to which it sold the barrels already used to age its cognacs. Precisely the deep knowledge of Caribbean rums, led the Maison Ferrand to discover some small batches of rum of extraordinary quality and aromatic intensity. These were very valuable rums, often reserved for the personal consumption of the maître de Chai or used to embellish other blends. Thus the idea was born to market these extraordinary rums in the Plantation collection, which includes both vintage rums, extraordinary expressions of the countries of origin, and some rums created by skilful blends of great personality. Run plantations are often aged in two distinct stages. First they are aged for many years in the warm and humid climate of the Caribbean and then transported to France, at Château de Bonbonnet in Charente, where they undergo further refinement, which enhances their finesse and elegance.
