The history of the Psenner Distillery coincides with that of its founder, Ludwig Psenner, born in 1920 near Termeno, a city famous for wine production. He began at a very young age to devote his energies passionately to the craft of distillation, of which he managed in a short time to know all the secrets. Thanks to his skill at only 27 years old he installed his first still in a water bath to produce his own grappa: the foundations of the Psenner distillery had been laid. Ludwig began to forge ties with the many wineries from which he collected the freshly squeezed pomace to be distilled. The activity of the distillery began to grow and its competence developed to the point that it became "an authority" in the sector. So much so that in 1949 he fought to promote a disciplinary that put firm points in the regulation of the distillation of grappa in Italy. In 1952 Ludwig decided to apply his experience also to the distillation of fruit and when, for the first time, he began to distill Williams pear brandy his business had a great turning point. The Psenner distillery had become one of the largest producers of Williams pear distillate in Europe and the first in Italy. It was then that Ludwig decided to offer admirers of this specialty another extremely original idea-the pear in the bottle. Grow the pears directly in the bottles that would be used for bottling the brandy. It was the classic stroke of genius and the beginning of a great tradition that has made school: still today in the 70 hectares of orchards Psenner the original procedure is used.
