THE PRODUCER.

The history of the Psenner Distillery coincides with that of its founder, Ludwig Psenner, who was born in 1920 near Tramin, a town famous for its wine production. He began at a very young age to passionately devote his energies to the craft of distillation, all the secrets of which he quickly mastered. Thanks to his skill at only 27 years old, he installed his first bain-marie still to make his own schnapps: the foundations of the Psenner Distillery had been laid. Ludwig began to forge ties with the many wineries from which he collected freshly pressed pomace for distillation. The Distillery's business began to grow and his expertise developed to the point that he became "an authority" in the field. So much so that in 1949 he fought to promote a specification that would put firm points in the regulation of grappa distillation in Italy. In 1952 Ludwig decided to apply his experience to fruit distillation as well, and when he was the first to begin distilling Williams pear brandy, his business took a major turn. The Psenner Distillery had become one of the largest producers of Williams pear brandy in Europe and the absolute first in Italy. It was then that Ludwig decided to offer admirers of this specialty another extremely original idea: pear in the bottle. That is, to grow pears directly in the bottles that would be used to bottle the brandy. It was a classic stroke of genius and the beginning of a great tradition that has set the standard: to this day the original procedure is still used in Psenner's 70 hectares of orchards.
