The history of Wild Turkey Distillery, then called "Ripy Distillery", begins in 1840, when John and James Ripy arrived in Lawrenceburg from Ireland. Survived Prohibition thanks to a stubborn loyalty to its own spirit with stars and Stripes, in 1933 the distillery resumed production and only a year later acquired the name “Wild Turkey”. The name was coined when Thomas Mc Carthy, a company executive, shared with friends a bottle of “101 proof” during a wild turkey hunt. Bourbon, much appreciated, was soon called by friends "that of wild turkey" and Mc Carthy, to honor the good taste of friends, turned the nickname into a legendary brand. Wild Turkey maintains, even today, the original recipe: produced with a mixture of selected cereals and the very pure water from the well of the distillery, rests in white oak barrels that give the product a dark color, a rich taste and an unmistakable aroma.  Contributing to Wild Turkey's uniqueness is the experience of master Distiller Jimmy Russell, who has been in the distillery for nearly 60 years and is a member of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame, and his son Eddy.
