THE PRODUCER: The maison is based in Vertus, a village located in the heart of the Côte des Blancs comprising 500 hectares classified as Premier Cru and located about 20 km southeast of Epernay. Concerning the origins of the winery there are documents as early as 1894, although the official founding was with Alexis Mailliard, about a century ago, a character who also played an important role in the development of the entire region and a true standard bearer of the récoltants of Vertus. Currently the maison is led by the third and fourth generations with 23 hectares of property, half of which are located in Vertus and the rest in the surrounding territories, planted mostly in Chardonnay. In terms of production, the goal has always been to preserve the style of the maison and to pass it down from father to son. For Michel Mailliard, Champagne has never been just a matter of winemaking technique, but primarily emotional and cultural: only in this way is it possible to conduct blending in such a way that the end result is greater than the sum of the parts: because after all, it is the art of accepting the superiority of nature!
